Boosting Social media for the FWNCR
The Fort Worth Nature Center and Reserve has so much to offer, and showcasing its beauty and wildlife through social media can help spread the word and engage visitors. Here are some ideas to enhance its online presence:
YouTube Trail Videos: I watched the YouTube video of the Canyon Ridge Trail, and I thought it wasn’t too bad. The video did a great job highlighting the trail markers and signs, and I like the description of what the hiker was hearing, feeling- like the spiderwebs, and the temperature, it really set the scene. The transitions also kept the video engaging, making it feel less lengthy. We could definitely do more trail videos like this to give viewers a sneak peek of what to expect during their visit.
Instagram Reels & YouTube Shorts: After our class feeding the prairie dogs and bison, I’m convinced that Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts would be a perfect way to share quick, engaging content. Here are some ideas:
Wildlife Spotlights: Create a series where each video highlights a different animal on the reserve—such as the bison, alligators, snakes, or prairie dogs. Share fun facts and possibly even include “day in the life” footage. A video of "Dog the alligator" could be especially cute!
Kayaking at Sunset or Sunrise
Funny Prairie Dog Clips
Volunteer Spotlights: Featuring kids volunteering at the reserve could catch parents attention.
Conservation Efforts: Showcasing the work being done, like controlled burns or clearing privet, will help highlight the reserve’s dedication to conservation.
Behind-the-Scenes Videos: Showcase where all the planning happens at the service center or introduce staff and volunteers through short, engaging interviews.
Time-Lapse Videos: Capturing the sunrise or sunset over the landscape would definitely grab attention. Additionally, documenting the seasonal changes over time would be a visually appealing way to share the evolving beauty of the reserve.
Social Media Engagement: To boost interaction, we could post interactive polls or quizzes on Instagram or Facebook stories. Encouraging visitors to tag the Nature Center in their posts and share their favorite moments would help spread the word. We could possibly host a monthly photo contest, offering prizes like free day passes.

Thanks for the suggestions. These are really great and specific. I think we can do a lot better trail guides. My issues with the link I sent is that there is more self-description than description of the flora and fauna, specific info about the trails and the Nature Center, and tips for enjoying the hike. I look forward to what our class can produce.
